Students stage sit-in at USC to protest labor policies

LOS ANGELES Thirteen University of Southern California students, along with two attorneys and a pastor, are sitting outside the Office of the President to protest the school’s labor policies.

Students walked into the administration building about eleven a-m. They claim the college uses sweatshops in making U-S-C apparel. The students are demanding the university join an independent monitoring group called the Workers Rights Consortium and adopt a designated suppliers program.

Sophomore and political science major Teresa Cheng says she is willing to sit it out in the waiting room and possibly get arrested.U-S-C spokesman James Grant says he admires the students’ ardor but, in his words, “We don’t believe this is the best way for them to achieve their goals.”
